1967 Sunbeam Alpine

1967 Sunbeam Alpine

The Sunbeam Alpine is a two-seater sports roadster/drophead coupe that was produced from 1953-1955, and 1959-1968. It was a two-seater sports roadster initial developed for a one-off rally car. The car has a four-cylinder 2,267 cc  engine from the saloon, but with a raised compression ratio. However, since it was developed from the saloon platform, it suffered from rigidity compromises despite extra side members in the chassis. The gearbox ratios were changed, and from 1954 an overdrive unit became standard. The gear-change lever was column-mounted.

The final version had a new five-bearing 1,725 cc engine with twin Zenith-Stromberg semi-downdraught carburettors producing 93 bhp. There was no longer an automatic transmission option. 19,122 were made.

This extremely well-cared for Alpine is a 4-speed manual with overdrive. The previous kept service documentation from new and collected relevant artifacts along the way. The engine was overhauled in 2004 and the front suspension was upgraded in 2014. A very polite driver with that extra bit of umph that the overdrive provides.
